Though the setting is almost exclusively woodlands, residents enjoy short commutes to Haverhill, Newburyport, and Beverly. Initially, the land was mostly used for cattle. Over time the population grew and Georgetown was officially incorporated as its own town in 1838. Shoe making was the predominant business for many decades before the last show factory finally closed in 1970.
